The short version
- No audio, ever. The system never records sound.
- Video is watched in our cloud, encrypted. The business's cameras send a low-resolution stream to us over an encrypted connection, stored only in our account. We keep 7 days of it so the business can scrub back, then it is deleted.
- Full-resolution recording stays at the business. It lives on the camera's memory card or the business's own recorder. Beyond the 7-day low-resolution stream, we keep only short clips of flagged events and recordings the business requests.
- No customer face data. We never store face data for customers or passers-by.
- Staff recognition is opt-in. A business may turn on recognition of its own employees only with each employee's recorded consent. Their face data is deleted when they leave.
Who this covers
Always Alert provides camera monitoring to restaurants, food trucks, stores and chains (“businesses”). This notice covers people who use our dashboard, people who appear in camera footage at a business that uses Always Alert, and visitors to this website.
What we collect
- A low-resolution stream from the business's cameras, kept for 7 days, and clips of flagged events with the event type, time, camera and detection details, plus any short recordings the business requests from those 7 days. None of it has sound.
- Account details for the business's team: email, name, role and the sites they can access. Sign-in uses one-time email codes; we store only a hash of each code and of each session.
- Device and alert data: push notification subscriptions, alert delivery records, and health data from the bridge or cloud monitor (uptime, camera status).
- Point-of-sale data, if the business connects Square: the transactions needed to spot a drawer opened with no sale, or a large void or refund.
- Pilot requests from this website: what you type into the form, plus your IP address and browser type, which we use to prevent abuse.
How we use it
To send alerts, let the business review clips, produce daily and weekly wraps, keep the service secure, and reply to pilot requests. We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who can see clips
Only the business's team members, according to their role and the sites they're allowed to see. Clips, recordings and live view are stored privately and shown through short-lived signed links, never public URLs, and every view is logged. Our staff may access a clip only to support the business or keep the service secure.
Service providers
We use providers to run the service: cloud hosting and storage (Amazon Web Services, in the United States), email delivery, analytics storage for aggregate counts, and an AI model provider to check flagged clips and to write the wording of the wraps. They process data only to provide their service to us.
How long we keep it
The low-resolution stream is deleted after 7 days. Full-resolution video on the business's own card or recorder is overwritten by that device, typically after about a week. Uploaded clips and requested recordings are kept for the period in the business's plan, then deleted. Account data is kept while the account is active. Employee face data, where used, is deleted when the employee leaves.
For businesses using Always Alert
Businesses are responsible for posting any camera or biometric notices their local laws require, and for collecting employee consent before turning on staff recognition.
Your choices
If you appear in footage at a business that uses Always Alert, contact that business first; they control their clips. You can also contact us through the pilot request form, and we will help.
